In looking over the posts channeled by your Angels over the past year, I am struck by how many of these posts concern the subject of attitude and belief. The overall message is: that which you believe manifests in your life. To examine your belief system, look about you at your environment, for it is there that you see the fruits of your creation. To change your fruits, change your beliefs (see Archives).

In regard to belief, many of my loyal readers know that I am still struggling with changing my attitudes and beliefs in certain areas, with spotty success. Just last Monday, on 1/11/11, my own Angels sent me a very positive message, which I wish to share with you. As always with my Angels, their message has a large element of teaching and learning connected with it, making it of general interest.

On that day, 1/11/11, I had driven to a particular department store to return some fleece sheets given me as a Christmas present by my sister, Sue. These sheets had been labeled “Full”, but when I put them on the bed, found them to be “Queen”. Too big for the bed and for my pillows, they were nevertheless so warm and cozy that I was not readily willing to part with them. After some discussion with Sue, she persuaded me to return them, saying that she would send me the correct size. So, on that Monday, I rode to the store with the intention of returning those comfy fleece sheets.

The store offered me the choice of an exchange or store credit. Surprised that they had fleece sheets (I had looked for them the year before and could not find them), on a whim I asked where they were located. “On a kiosk near the Men’s Department”, said the clerk. Taking my store credit with me, I strolled through the store on my way to an exit. Although I had no plans to pick up the “Full” sheets, curiosity got the best of me and I began looking for the Men’s Dept. and the kiosk on which the alleged sheets allegedly were displayed. Found the Men’s Dept. Found the kiosk. Found the fleece sheets. Found the “Full” sized sheets. Found the packaging to be smaller than the “Queen” size and considered picking up a set, but didn’t because my sister had said that she would send me replacements.

Turning my back on the sheets, I began walking toward the exit, which was in a direct line with the sheet kiosk. In no special hurry, I meandered past a rack full of hanging stuff, some long, some short, some fluffy, some smooth—all so nondescript that nothing caught my attention except the sheer quantity of it. For some unknown reason, I stopped at the sight of all this stuff, none of which had the slightest interest for me, yet which held me fast. Almost in a trance, I walked around the rack to the other side. I could not have told you why I did so, since that, too was filled with quantities of hanging stuff. In this trance, I walked slowly to nearly the midpoint of the display, my gaze at about 3-4 feet above the floor. At this position, my gaze found a huge, wooden plaque, approximately 18 inches wide by at least 6 inches tall, made of rough, brown wood. Slowly my eyes moved upward to encounter the phrase, “You Can Achieve It”. Jolted, I continued my gaze upward and found the phrase, “If You Believe It”.

I stared, dumbfounded. The phrase, “You Can Achieve It” was in direct answer to my unspoken question of whether I could achieve my stated goal, which I had just the day before given up. I had actually mentally said good-bye to the man who seemed my ideal mate, thinking that he would never be attracted to or interested in me. Now here was my Angels’ message straight from Heaven, written in English, in huge white letters on a huge, brown, ugly, wooden plaque, so big that I couldn’t possibly miss it.

I stared at this wooden plaque, taking the message in, first reading it top to bottom and then bottom to top. Slowly, slowly, as my reasoning faculties returned, I became aware that my Angels were sending me the most powerful message to date that they had ever sent. They were going to a lot of trouble to tell me that yes, indeed, I am able to achieve my desire for my ideal mate and yes, they have every intention of sending me my heart’s desire. There is a hold-up, however, and that hold-up is me. Specifically, the hold-up is my inability to believe that he would be interested in coming into my life. They were telling me that I am able to achieve my desire: the first words I encountered were “You Can Achieve It”—in direct answer to my continuing question of whether my desire was even possible. They were also telling me that in order to achieve my desire, I must do my part, which is to believe that this can come into my life.

My Angels were deadly serious. They are willing to send him to me; they are waiting to send him to me; they are wanting to send him to me, but they cannot, because I have been unable to muster sufficient belief that this dream can actually happen to me. [Remember that sufficient belief is that amount of belief which is the size of a grain of mustard (see June 6, 2010 Belief: the missing link)]. All of this realization washed over me in a profound spirit of conviction. I realized that my Angels were my friends and truly desire to aid me, but they can only go so far. It now becomes my responsibility to fulfill my part of the bargain, which is to believe with my whole heart, body, and soul. Interestingly, I had no goosebumps, no shivers, no thrills, just a deep, solid knowing the content and extent of their message. Playtime’s over, boys and girls, time to get serious.

In some shock that my dream will actually materialize, I spent the next day mulling over the Angel message and digging out from the two feet of snow that Mother Nature had so generously dumped on us. On 1/13/11, on my way to work, I examined closely the idea of belief and how I had been skirting this issue, giving lip-service to it, but not really believing that I could have my ideal mate. I examined closely my attitudes and beliefs. What were my sticking points? What did I not believe? What could I believe? In what form could I believe it? What would it take for me to believe it? How could I actually convince myself to believe it?

With Angelic guidance, I was able to sort through my hopes, fears, and terrors, trying to find a way to believe that someone could find me attractive. I decided that I could believe that I can be cute. Not glamorous, but cute. Perky and cute. I can believe that I am able to be charming. I can believe that I have a delightful and unpredictable sense of humor. I can believe that this combination of cuteness and charm and humor can be used by the Holy Spirit to provide an attractive aura around me, which my future ideal mate will find irresistible. And in thinking along these line, I realized that I have a high IQte. This last had me laughing out loud, which brought me to the next realization: someone with a high IQte is approachable, which is in itself attractive.

After this intense soul-searching and honest appraisal of my strengths, I am able to believe wholeheartedly that they, along with the magic of the Holy Spirit, will bring my ideal mate into my life. This was hard work, having to face my terrors, but how could I turn my back on my willing Angels? How could I turn away their generous gift of an ideal mate, which they are ready to hand to me if I will only do my part? Am I so lazy that I will use the excuse of “it’s too hard”, or “it’s too scary”, or “I’m not worth it”, or other such nonsense? Hardly. I’ll rise to the occasion if it’s the last thing I do, especially for the promise of my ideal mate.

I sincerely hope that you can find strength, hope, and comfort in this little example of Angelic aid and guidance. Perhaps you, too, have some secret desire that you wish fulfilled but believe that you cannot achieve because of specious reasons (and they are all specious). Decide on your dream. Search out those blocks to your belief. Find ways to believe, ways that ring true for you that will allow this dream into your life. Your Angels are more than willing to meet you halfway.

Your Angels are vitally interested that you understand the extreme importance of the role of belief in your life. They have addressed this idea before in several posts:

June 5, 2010: “seek with expectation”
June 6, 2010: “belief: the missing link”
June 7, 2010: “expand your belief”
July 31, 2010: “thoughts are things”

Yet, today, they again made it clear to me just how important that little idea of belief is, for that which you believe will become present for you in your physical world. That which you do not believe will not manifest itself in your immediate physical world, even though it is present in the larger physical world. As is their habit, your Angels have a story to illustrate their advice.

An acquaintance of mine, Zelda, has an issue with abundance. She is unable to manifest it. In particular, she is unable to manifest green energy, which we know by its other name, money. In addition, she is unable, at present, to see how her beliefs contribute to this seeming inability to manifest abundance. Several years ago, she called to lament her lack of funds. Her Angels presented her with several suggestions, all of which would result in an increase in her funds. One of these suggestions involved claiming a balance of nearly $3,000 held by a local bank, in her name, in a “lost accounts” fund. She seemed excited by this prospect. I heard little of any progress in this direction but was not surprised, since she has honed procrastination to a fine art.

In a recent conversation with Zelda, she again lamented her low bank account. Inquiring about the “lost funds” held by the bank, she became very defensive and told me that she could not get the funds. The defensive/aggressive tone of her voice tipped me off to a deeper issue. With gentle probing by her Angels, we uncovered her major obstacle. In her own words, “I don’t believe that I can get that money. It doesn’t seem real to me.”

Aha! Now we are at the crux of the matter: she doesn’t believe; and acquisition does not seem real to her. In other words, while intellectually she can hear the words that $3,000 is waiting for her at a bank, emotionally that money might as well be on the Moon or in a movie or in the next galaxy over. She is not able to feel that this money belongs to her and that it will be sitting in her very own savings account in her lifetime. That explains why she has not pursued it, why she was put off so easily by any attempts to pursue it, why she is not pursuing it at the present time, and why she has no plans to pursue it. To her belief system, that money does not exist, so why bother to pursue it? Thus, this money is present in the physical realm, but not present in her immediate physical world.

My fervent hope is that all of you, dear readers, are shaking your heads in wonder and nodding them at the same time. Shaking your heads at the futility of her belief system, yet nodding knowingly because you know that changing her belief will result in manifestation of this $3,000 in her bank account. Many people say, “I’ll believe it when I see it”. Dr. Dyer knows that You’ll See It When You Believe It (see Reading). So how can Zelda help herself? She can become aware of her belief system (see November 15, 2010, It’s all about Awareness). Once she has become aware of this belief, she can choose to think differently. Once she thinks differently, she can choose to believe that this money is real, that it is hers, and then take steps to claim it, thus bringing it into her immediate physical reality.

Your Angels know that belief systems are often ingrained, ruts worn deep by many years and decades of consistent wrong thinking. Becoming aware of those belief systems is a huge accomplishment in itself. Once an ingrained belief is identified, you might have to just sit with it for a while—sometimes years—looking at it, understanding it, making peace with it, before you can move on to replacing it. With Zelda, to her eternal credit, she was able today to hear herself admit that she does not believe the money to be real. Once she realizes this important belief, she can begin to process it and choose to believe differently. She may continue to choose to believe the money is not real, but somehow, once a belief is exposed, it doesn’t have the same power over us that it had before we were aware of it.

Your Angels hope that you will take this little story to heart, make it your own, and start to become aware of your own belief systems which get in your way. What belief is holding you back? Do you believe yourself to be unlovable? Do you believe that you must suffer? Do you believe that you must be poor? Do you believe that life is hopeless, so why try? Ferret out those harmful beliefs. Know that your life is only as rich as your belief system, then trust that your Angels will show you the way to an abundance of riches, however you define them.

Ponder on this:

Through expansion of our dreams we learn:

That we are the center of our universe;

That we create all around us;

That we must become responsible for our thoughts and dreams for as we dream, so we create our world;

That we must discipline our thoughts, for that which we think becomes real–what you focus on expands

Your Guides and Angels sincerely desire for you to have the very best in life, and to accomplish that, they are always ready and available with aid to help you on your journey. Although they are vitally interested in you and in your journey, they do not force themselves on you, only make themselves available. Thus, your free will to ignore them and their divinely inspired aid is kept intact.

Aware as your Angles are of your free will, they still encourage you to listen to guidance. So why listen? What’s in it for you, anyway (see also May 10, 2010 Rewards of Listening to Guidance)? On one level, you can know that you are following the best advice possible, tailored specifically for you by your very own Guides and Angels, who can see a much bigger picture that you could possibly see. Because this advice is so specific for you, in the long run you will always see how things worked out for the best for you, even if it seems like a disaster at the time. If that reasoning seems dry, then try this: listening to guidance is fun! Yes, you read correctly: it’s fun! Here’s how the fun works: you hear a voice; get a strong feeling; feel an urge; see a sign; get a physical push. You take heed; you pay attention. You follow the directions and do, think, act in accordance with these directions. Something terrific happens and you stand in awe of both the process and the result. The feeling that comes over you—truly shock and awe—is indescribable. You feel like you can fly. Once you get into the habit of this, following guidance becomes a game, a fun, thrilling exciting game, rather than a contest of wills. If you will indulge me a moment, I would like to share with you my own latest thrill and awe in connection with Angelic guidance.

Some time ago, I was in dark despair over the future of these little posts. I wrote on September 20, 1020 (Little Drops of Water) that my work seemed to be done in a vacuum with no purpose in the living, breathing world. As I thought these dark thoughts, drifting in from the northwest corner of my brain comes the clear transmission to just keep at it, just keep plugging away because the Angelic messages are really important, to pay no attention to my seeming lack of readership because the world will catch up with me one day and find these messages to be timely. That mollified me somewhat and I followed their advice, kept on writing, with the knowledge that someone, somewhere, sometime would benefit from these Angelic messages. Now I find that, to date, no fewer than 453 people in 17 countries around the world have tuned in to this humble website, to read these important Angelic messages. I was in total awe at how correct my Angels were in their advice to me. After this, how can I ignore my Angels when they are so correct?

The hard part for us is to believe these communications from our Angels when all around us things look contrary to what they might be telling us. It is at these times that your previous experience with their counsel and your hard-won faith in their advice will pull you through. Your fear lessens; your confidence in them and in yourself increases; you become unflappable in straitened circumstances because you know your Angels are helping you get through the rough times. Just keep at it, one small step at a time. Then you’ll be ready for the great, big goodies your Angels have to offer you.

Many previous posts have dealt with the subject of expanding your creative ability by experimenting with manifesting dreams and goals outside of your comfort zone (see Archives). While people seem comfortable with the idea of dreaming and realize that they use it every day to bring things into their lives, I have become aware of and encountered some conventional wisdom in regard to dreaming that seems to go against actual experience. I am presenting this topic in an effort to understand the source and objective of this conventional wisdom. I am also very interested in readers’ thoughts on this post in particular. Perhaps your Angels will speak to you and through you to me, because just at present, they are not speaking to me, at least not on this topic.

In discussing dreams and dreaming big, for some reason, there persists among many people a kind of conviction that dreams ought not to be specific, but should be left open and up to the Universe to decide. For example, one would ask for an ideal mate but have no specific person in mind, allowing the Universe to pick the specific person. Another conviction I have encountered is if something is not manifested quickly, you’re on the wrong track and need to give up. Let us examine these issues of specificity and persistence.

In regard to specificity, my own experience has been at odds with most advice I receive. People tell me to avoid specificity, yet I find myself embracing it continuously in my daily life. For example, at age 9, I desired most of all to have my very own bicycle, a blue Schwinn. My parents were too poor to buy one, so I determined that I would wash dishes and do whatever it took to get that bicycle. Receiving a nickel for each time I did the dishes, I became the dishmaster, saving every cent and watching them mount up in my little savings book. It took several years, but one day, a new, beautiful blue Schwinn bicycle was in my possession. I had that bike until I outgrew it and began driving a car. For another example, in my early 20’s, I wanted a kitten, but knew it would be in my life at a later date. I knew that he would be a little male kitty. I cast about in my mind for a suitable name, desiring one that had dignity and was a little out of the ordinary. “Rutherford” came to mind one day. Perfect! Three years later, I had in my possession an 8-week-old male kitten, coal black, with green eyes, named “Rutherford”.

Most people I know also are very specific in their dreams, perhaps even without realizing it. One of my co-workers had planned each of her pregnancies, specifying even the sex of the babies, all of which came true. Her last pregnancy came a few months later than she had planned, but she did get pregnant and had a boy, just as was her dream. In shopping, too, for example, we are very specific in our grocery lists. Let us say that you need carrots. You go to the store, expecting to find carrots. The store is out of carrots. Do you then throw up your hands and say, “Oh, well. I guess the Universe doesn’t want me to have carrots because they’re not here. Guess I’ll use zucchini instead.”? Probably not. If you’re like me, you’ll drive to the next grocery store and find those *&#% carrots because, dad gum it, you need them for the chicken soup. Or say you’re out of shampoo and CVS is out of your favorite brand. Do you then throw up your hands and say, “Oh, well. I guess the Universe doesn’t want me to buy that shampoo. Guess I’ll buy some other brand instead.”? If you’re like me, you’ll drive to the next store to get the exact shampoo brand that you desire, because that is what is in your dream. If you examine your teensy, tiny everyday dreams, I believe you’ll find them to be quite specific. I believe, also, that most of you, like me, will move heaven and earth or alternatively, wait, until your specific dream can be realized. Why then, would your friends and acquaintances counsel you to avoid specificity in your choice of ideal mate and amount of money you wish to manifest? I am at a loss to understand this and hope that some of my readers can bring some insight to this question.

As to persistence, yesterday’s post (October 15, 2010 Persistence Pays) addressed the idea that if results aren’t seen quickly, you’re better off to abandon your dream because you’re obviously on the wrong road. Once again, my experience is contrary to conventional wisdom on the topic of persistence. In dreaming my little dream of owning a Schwinn bicycle, which, by the way, was a huge dream for a nine-year-old with no visible means of buying it, I was in it for the long haul. I washed dishes until I had dishpan hands and then washed some more. I saved every cent. I watched my nickels grow. After years of this persistence, not only was a Schwinn bicycle in my possession, but the blue Schwinn, not the red one or the green. I did not look around at day 5 of my dream, find no bicycle, and say, “Oh, well. I guess the Universe doesn’t want me to have a bike. Guess I’ll give it up.” I just kept at it, not looking back. With Rutherford, too, it was a full three years from the time I first thought of him until he actually came into my life. The surprise was his color. I didn’t expect him to be coal black, but then, I didn’t really have a color in mind. As for the outlot attached to my current house, which my neighbor absolutely refused to sell to me, that took a full eight years before the land was mine. In none of these cases was success immediate, but required time and persistence to achieve. Even Thomas Edison had a bout with persistence. It took 10,000 tries before he found the right filament for the lightbulb, a filament that would stay intact and not burn up immediately. Where would we be today if he had thrown up his hands at try #52 and said, “Oh, well. I guess the Universe doesn’t want me to find a filament. Guess I’ll just put up with candles.”?

There are bazillions more examples in both specificity and persistence that I could mention and even more that each of you can find in your everyday lives. I am very interested in your input and thoughts about the dichotomy between actual behavior and the current conventional wisdom on these two topics. My hope is that you will share with each other and with me, shedding the light that Thomas Edison so thoughtfully gave us through his specificity and persistence.
